Billie’s Pecans began more than 25 years ago when Mrs. Billie Crenshaw started picking up the pecans that fell off the trees on her husband’s family farm in Crenshaw, Mississippi. Back then, there were more pecans than Mr. Crenshaw knew what to do with. He told Billie that if she’d pick them up, she could do whatever she wanted with them.
She took the pecans home and started creating new family recipes, starting with her favorite – Cinnamon Spiced. With her sons’ encouragement, she started selling them at the Market Basket in Memphis, gave out free samples at Goldsmith’s department store, and built her business through word-of-mouth.
Even as things grew, for 10 years, Billie kept running her business out of her home and her kitchen. She kept adding recipes, expanding to jams and jellies – including a blackberry jam, which, like the pecans, comes straight from the family farm. But the signature family recipe has been, and always will be, Cinnamon Spiced Pecans.
People kept coming back for more, and Billie’s Pecans moved to an office in Crenshaw, MS, where they still do business today. Billie’s Pecans have found their way from that office to all 50 states, and to a growing number of foreign countries.
The world may change around us, but Billie’s has kept things simple, just like when she started picking up pecans on the farm 25 years ago.
