Gift Guide to South Carolina Posted by: Dan | 0 Comments
Seriously, South Carolina, you guys have got it all. In the age-old debate of “mountains vs. beach,” you don’t even have to decide. They’re both in your backyard. You’ve got some pretty temperate weather and even prettier scenery — oh, and that golden mustard barbecue sauce — and, well, we can’t help but be a little jealous.
If you’re proud of your Carolina roots and want to support your state this holiday season, we’re picking a few of our favorite South Carolina-inspired products. And if that’s not enough for you, browse all of our South Carolina finds here.
1. Chili by the State Kits, from $5.95
Somehow each region of the country has its own take on chili. It’s just meat, tomatoes and spices for crying out loud, but people can be pretty serious about it. If you’d like a taste of what everyone else is on about, try these chili by the state kits, which allow you to imitate the chili pots of five different locales — Texas, Arizona, Nevada, Colorado and New Mexico — as well as one competition chili. Why should you care, South Carolina? Because these kits are assembled by the inventive people in your home state.
2. South Carolina Home Shirt, $28
If you think it’s great to call South Carolina home, let everyone know with this insanely soft T-shirt. It’s made in the U.S.A. and a portion of the proceeds go to fund multiple sclerosis research.
3. Sugah Scrub and Honey Butter duo, $38
Whether you pronounce it “shoog-er” or “shug-gah,” this bathroom scrub and the accompanying honey-butter cream will leave your skin feeling as smooth as candy. We’re not responsible if people try to take a bite out of you. Choose from the smell of magnolia or jasmine and get to pampering yourself.
4. Wine Bottle Wind Chimes, $35
This Myrtle Beach company upcycles the old wine bottle into something musical. In fact, their motto alone — “drink straight from the bottle” — is music to our ears. Each wind chime is built with a silver colored brass chain and a wooden knocker. The bottles are cut twice and then polished as smooth as possible.
5. Vintage Marquee Lights, $229
Light up your bedroom, living room, restaurant or home office with one of these gorgeous vintage marquee lights. Made in Myrtle Beach, they are carefully crafted from rusty metal to make them look authentic and antique. Wear and tear will vary from sign to sign. But the combination of rustic metal and bright bulbs is so undeniable, you’ll never want to turn these lights off.
6. Southern College Towns Hand-painted Signs, $29
Show some love for your hometown or alma mater — Columbia, anyone? — and display the sign proudly at your next tailgate. They’re hand-painted by an artist in Georgia. If you don’t see your town as an option, these signs are completely customizable.
