A perfect gift for the Mississippi lover in your life, this stunning piece of art is the perfect blend of Iconic Metal married to reclaimed pieces of barn wood, resulting in rustic yet elegant artwork. Each piece is an ornamentally carved piece of aluminum affixed to a repurposed piece of barn wood. Mississippi is located in the southern region of the United States. The state is heavily forested outside of the Mississippi Delta area. Its riverfront areas were cleared for slave-cultivated cotton production before the American Civil War, but after the war, the bottomlands were cleared mostly by freedmen. African Americans made up two-thirds of the property owners in the Delta by the end of the 19th century, but timber and railroad companies acquired much of the land. Clearing altered the ecology of the Delta, increasing the severity of flooding along the Mississippi. Much land is now held by agribusinesses. The state's catfish aquaculture farms produce the majority of farm-raised catfish consumed in the United States.
Most pieces come in standard sizes of 16” x 9” or small sizes of 9” x 8”. The metal stands away from the wood approximately ½”. Each piece contains hanging hardware, an authenticity sticker, and is personally hand-signed by the artist.
The artist is a native of Greenwood, MS, a town on the east side of the Mississippi delta bordered by the Tallahatchie and Yazoo Rivers. His interest in repurposing came at a young age as he first learned woodworking and metal carving skills from his father who made folk harps.   He started crafting these magnificent creations in his retirement after attending Mississippi State and a corporate career with Fed Ex. He now resides in Hernando, MS.
