Champagne Fizz

The Champagne Fizz is a classic drink recipe that is made with gin, lemon juice, and sugar. It was invented by Harry Johnson in New York City in the late 1800s. He was a bartender at the famous Astor House hotel. The recipe for this drink was published in his 1882 book “The Bartender’s Manual: How to Mix Drinks or the Bon Vivant’s Companion” and is considered to be one of the earliest mixed drinks which used champagne as an ingredient. According to the inventor, he was originally asked by a customer to create a new version of a Brandy Fizz cocktail made with champagne. The Champagne Fizz has been popular ever since and is one of the most popular mixed drinks you can order today. It is shaken with ice, then strained into a cocktail glass. A garnish of lemon peel completes the drink.
