Basil’s Bite

Basil's Bite is a cocktail created by Albert Maysles for the Museum of the Moving Image in New York City. It is regarded as a contemporary classic - a cocktail that was created relatively recently (in the perspective of hundreds of years of mixed beverages) and has since become a sensation. In a cocktail shaker, combine the basil leaves and lemon. Muddle the lemon and basil together, gently "smashing" the ingredients. Fill with ice and top with sugar syrup and gin. Shake the mixture vigorously and then strain twice into an ice-filled rocks glass. Thereafter, garnish with small fresh basil leaves.
