Brandied Cider

Brandied cider is one of the oldest and most popular drinks in the United States. It is basically a mixture of apple juice, sugar and yeast while some recipes use spices such as cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice and cloves. Cider was originally invented by African slaves in America who combined their traditional African drink- Palm Wine- with apple juice and spices to create what we now know as Cider. This is how it got its name from the word “cider” which is derived from the Latin word “sorbas” which means to squeeze or press. To make the cocktail, add all the ingredients in a non-metal saucepan and heat gently until sugar is dissolved. Then, remove from heat. Allow to cool completely before serving.
