Buccaneer

Buccaneers are a type of rum-based cocktail. They consist of some form of fruit, orange juice, and dark rum. The name is derived from the Buccaneers that roamed the Caribbean during the 17th and 18th centuries. The first mention of the buccaneer is in 1690 when an advertisement for “Buckaneer’s punch” was published in Jamaica. The advertisement did not mention what was in it, but we can assume it is a type of punch made with dark rum and some fruit - most likely pineapple or orange juice. The earliest known recipe for a buccaneer is from 1917 where it consisted of blended pineapple and lime with ice, sugar syrup or grenadine, Falernum and dark rum.
