The Cool Operator cocktail was first created by the owner of the Oak Bar located in the Fairmont San Francisco hotel. On a foggy night in 1934, a passenger ship, The President Hoover, docked at pier 39 and three passengers disembarked to visit the Fairmont San Francisco Hotel. The bartender at that time was John, and he welcomed these three passengers and treated them with a custom-made drink to welcome them and keep them warm. After their drinks were served, one of these passengers exclaimed “John, I would like you to christen this drink for me with your own special name” and he named it Cool Operator.
