The Dark Side is a cocktail with a rum base and a mix of dark, bitter liqueurs. It was invented in the early 1990s by barman Angus Winchester, who named it after the movie Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back. It is a cocktail with a rich history. It’s been around for over 100 years and is the result of the combination of two classic cocktails – The Manhattan and The Martini. Both drinks have strong flavors from rye whiskey, sweet vermouth, bitters, and maraschino liqueur.
2 ½ ounce gin
¾ ounce Barolo chinato
1 ½ tsp Peychaud’s bitters
Garnish: brandied cherry
1. Add the gin, Barolo chinato and bitters into a mixing glass with ice and stir until well-chilled.
2. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass.
3. Garnish with a brandied cherry.
