The Hazelnut Black Russian cocktail is a variation of the Black Russian cocktail that was invented by George J. Kappeler in 1952. In the early 1950s, Kappeler was working as a bartender at the famous Sloppy Joe’s Bar in Key West, Florida. Due to an increase in demand for cocktails from American tourists from Russia and Ukraine, he decided to create a new drink for those customers.
The original recipe of this drink was simple: vodka and coffee liqueur, served on ice with a dash of cream or nutmeg garnish. The first patrons to try this drink were mostly American tourists from Russia and Ukraine who had come to Key West for vacation. They loved it so much that they soon introduced it back home with them.Hazelnut.
1½ ounces coffee liqueur
½ ounce hazelnut liqueur
1½ ounces vodka
1. In a cocktail shaker, combine the coffee liqueur, hazelnut liqueur, and vodka.
2. Add ice and shake until chilled.
3. Strain into a rocks glass filled with ice.
