The drink was born sometime in 1954, when Ramon 'Monchito' Marrero, a bartender at the Caribe Hilton Hotel in San Juan, Puerto Rico created it for Hollywood producer Richard Zanuck and his wife Marilyn Monroe. In 1959, Marrero published his recipe in the "San Juan Star" newspaper.
¼ ounce pineapple juice
1 ounce coconut cream
1½ ounces spiced rum
Pineapple wedge for garnish
Maraschino cherries for garnish
1. In a cocktail shaker, combine the pineapple juice, coconut cream, and spiced rum.
2. Add ice and shake vigorously.
3. Strain the mixture into a hurricane glass filled with ice.
4. Garnish with a pineapple wedge and some maraschino cherries.
