4 Ways To Wear a Blanket Scarf

Although the blanket scarf has been around for a very long time, the humble accessory has experienced something of a resurgence in recent years.

The blanket scarf has begun to appear all over the catwalk at major fashion shows, and the accessory is proudly worn by celebrities of all kinds.

Both men and women now wear the blanket scarf as a modern fashion accessory, and it’s converting many others every day.

In case you weren’t aware, these blanket scarves were also fashionable hundreds of years ago, during the time of the “wild west.”

During this period, the blanket scarf was worn traditionally by the Navajo Native Americans. These Natives wore blanket scarves with brightly colored chevron patterns.

Cowboys, on the other hand, tended to favor plaids and stripes. Both sets of old westerners wore these blanket scarves for decoration, but also as a highly functional piece of equipment.

Since blanket scarves can be worn in so many different ways, they make excellent layering options. You can strategically switch the way you drape the scarf, based on the temperature and your comfort levels.

The first real resurgence of the blanket scarf came back in the 1950’s. Today, modern blanket scarves are basically a reflection of this 50’s trend, and not necessarily the original “old west” versions.

4 Ways To Wear a Blanket Scarf 2

Blanket scarves are extremely comforting, and this is definitely one of the major reasons why so many people love them. There’s something very soothing about wearing a blanket, and that essence is communicated to onlookers, as well.

Wearing a blanket scarf is a way to let everyone know how you approach the world. When you wear a blanket scarf, you might be subconsciously broadcasting your love for comfort and relaxation.

There’s something very laid-back about blanket scarves, and yet these accessories also have a functional and utilitarian vibe.

Many people today might be discovering the joys of blanket scarves for the first time. And while these accessories certainly have their merits, they can also be a little confusing.

If you’ve just purchased your blanket scarf and you’re unpacking it for the first time, you may be wondering how you’re supposed to wear it!

Well, you’ve come to the right place if you’re a little befuddled. Here are 4 ways to wear a blanket scarf:

The Wrap Around Style

This is a very simple way to wear your blanket scarf, and it’s an excellent way to cover your neck. Although the blanket scarf won’t cover the rest of the body with this style, it’ll keep you very warm.

Basically, all you need to do is wrap the scarf as many times as you can around your neck. When you can’t wrap it around any more, tie a simple knot at the front.

This should keep everything nice and secure around your neck – but don’t tie the scarf too tight. This style looks the best when it’s slightly loose and drapey… Just not too loose.

Tying your scarf too tightly could also make it very uncomfortable, which is never a good look!

Ladies might love this style, because it allows you to tuck your hair into the scarf at the back. This keeps everything neat, tidy, and toasty.

Tuck It Into Your Belt

This is one style that we’ve been seeing a lot of on the runway. Major fashion labels love to show off their oversized scarves in this manner, and this style looks incredible if you can pull it off.

Luckily, there’s really not much to it.

All you really need to do is find the middle of the scarf and place it behind your neck. Then pull both sides forward and drape them across the front of your body – just like a shirt.

The final step it to secure the sides of the scarf to the sides of your waist with a belt.

Another method is to use the waistband of a coat to secure your scarf. This works best with the waistband of a trench coat.

If you’re trying to look like a total fashionista with your blanket scarf, then this is probably the style you should try. Although it requires a slightly more specific wardrobe, the end result is undeniably chic.

Shawl Style

While the previous two styles were slightly more involved, this one is totally laid back.

You don’t even have to think about wrapping your blanket scarf in this style. It’s almost as if you had just casually reached for a blanket while watching TV on your couch.

Take your scarf and fold it in half. Then drape the folded side across your shoulders. Reach back around, and tuck your arms into the openings between the two folded sheets of fabric.

This should create some “sleeves” that create a sense of structure. Having your arms hooked into the opening of your folded scarf also prevents it from slipping off.

If you’d like to make this look a little more fashionable, you can always wrap the scarf with a belt, directly underneath the elbows.

All in all, this is a very versatile look that you can pull off in just a few seconds.

Snow Style

We’ve all seen this style before, and this is the way most people wear their “normal” scarves on a day-to-day basis.

But even though the blanket scarf is a much larger version of your typical scarf, it can still be worn in exactly the same way.

You already know exactly how to wear your scarf in this way, so there’s really not much to tell.

Simply wrap the scarf around your neck one, and push one end of the scarf behind your back. The other hand hangs in front, and that’s it!

You’re probably familiar with this method, and you might have even worn your scarf like this as a child.

But despite its simplicity, this style is still very fashionable and iconic.

It’s also very functional, and it should provide you with plenty of warmth even on the coldest of days.

We’re sure there are plenty of other ways to wear a blanket scarf, but those are four of our favorites. Why not experiment and try out new styles? Or maybe you could even combine these styles together in various ways.

When you’re wearing a blanket scarf, there are always tons of possibilities.
